the music (1994-1999) vol.1 (cd version) represents the best available versions of the painless ep (1995) and mr. serpent and the wonderful gift of anger (1996/1998)

all tracks written, recorded, performed and deformed by drk, ©1993-1998 give my parents ulcers music, unless noted below.

the original 5.1 surround sound from 4-track to 8-ch. stereo with effects then direct to mini-disc master mix of "the music" (mr.serpent's base recordings) was stolen in 1997 by this shady asshole named joe and sold to his other shady kid named brian who may or may not have the original masters still... the only cassette copy made off the master which was the master for cassette copies that were made on generic low-bias c60s was stolen by this mike kid then restolen back for me by matt valerino who i can never repay for getting it back for me since the quality was good for being on a generic tdk c60... this mix was re-transferred back to mini-disc losing a lot of it's umph and thickness in the process and the surround sound mix also since the tape mixdown was converted to analog stereo for cassettes... since there was room on the disc... the master tape mixdown for the painless ep as also added to make a backup copy... track one "brOkeN.98" was added from old mini-disc beat recordings from my nice boss drum machine that i used to have and mixed with new guitar parts into a four track... then vocal tracks and mixing was done direct into an old tv as a p.a. and monitor then lined out direct to mini-disc... an old recording of a matt valerino demo came on the four track on the flip side of a tape i thought was blank called "spacial distances" which became the second guitar track you here start in the bonus track "spacial distances and trust" mhich is a mental breakdown miked through the t.v. to about those i trusted who took advantage of my generosity and robbed from me when my back was turned... track 2 "hiding place" was also mixed through the tv right after "brOkeN.98" was finished to add the right sides remix in since the raw casio demo wasn't cutting it for me but always loved the slint-iness of it... it was on old versions of the mr. serpent demos when it was called something like "a serpent in the eyes of an angel" and other titles along the same lines after the girl who inspired the album after leaving me in the summer 1995 for religious and family reasons came back in spring 1996 and after a few months left again and the whole album got remixed in effect and p.a board and big amp driven madness for the base of mr.serpent in angry passion after i quit this shitty metal band who wanted to add a second rhythm guitarist due to me not being "skilled enough to play the new riffs" and so the "serpent" demos went from being mostly random acoustic and bass and drum mixes to what it is today... and then mixed through the tv after "brOkeN.98" to add the right sides remix in since the raw casio demo wasn't cutting it for me but always loved the slint-iness of it... before this happened though that girl came left again and the songs got re-mixed and angrier and then she came back and the album was shelved and we were going to get married and move in together... and then she died in a bad car wreck... after a bad manic spell of giving away all my possessions/making my credit out/binge use of psychedelics and wanting to die and live at the same time... mr. serpent and the wonderful gift of anger was born and i slipped into a depression coma for a year and a half... friends finally came to pull me out of my house and i lasted another 8 years until i lost everything again... so now after 15 years it seems the proper time to re-release these two recordings... not in the best possible quality but as what was left from the wreckage of the nineties... after the wrekage of the 2000's is done.... let's hope 2017 doesn't result in a release of "broken on 2018".

lyrics for "police light", "half", and "irate cement" were written by david rife as song-poetry under the pen-name serge delango in 1994 on scraps of torn out newspaper articles that oddly were based on the articles photography and content as if the people in the articles were the song writers and then given to me to turn into songs.
sam topper plays bass on some parts of "drain"
"chung break" and the first few seconds of the "folded" intro are sampled from a wang chung remixed and remastered thing from '97 i got in a promo cd pile at quonset hut.
matt valerino performs "spacial distances" during "spacial distances and trust" (the bonus track).
the mad man responsible for the "serpent" mixes is known as my manic alter remix project... doctamom and the maximum strength... later to become the lOST sANITY dEVICE when computer tecnology for music advanced.

also released on cassette in this version as a ltd.ed of 20 as drk dglr (david r. kiss and the dirt grovelin' lounge rock) c90, fallen star... which had a few bonus tracks too from the original "serpent" demos than aren't on the final mix and i have no recollection of the way the mixes sounded.

matt valerino also plays second guitar on "six two"

if anyone has any of the originals in their possession of the "serpent" demos or good copies not destroyed by cd labels... let me know... also if you have the original mr.serpent mini-disc mixdown... known as "the music"... please return it to me... it's not yours and it's important and priceless to me.
